Plein Air Class - Painting on Location in Oils/Pastel

Candy Barr will be teaching a weekly class throughout the summer in the Mad River Valley, Wednesdays 4-7 PM. Classes for all levels will begin July 9th behind The Starving Artist, Village Square, Waitsfield and continue through September. The class will meet on locations to be determined from week to week. Please email or call to register and Candy will send directions to locations and a suggested materials list. Needed materials can be found at The Starving Artist.

Admission: $40/class for over 3 classes or $50 per class

Rural Vermont En Plein Air

August 13-15 at the River Gallery School in Brattleboro, Vt. Come for 3 full days of expressive painting outdoors on location at selected sites around the Brattleboro area. The workshop will emphasize conveying the essence of landscape, using a full-color palette and value contrasts. We will review the basics of plein air painting and the creative process. You will learn how to render light and shadow and create harmony and balance in artwork that reflects your unique interpretation of nature. Some experience painting in the pastel medium is necessary. Painting the Rural Landscape

August 18-22 at the Fletcher Farm School in Ludlow, Vt. Take your artistic vision to a new level. We will paint primarily outdoors to gain confidence working en plein air. Location sites include rural scenics, country gardens, old farm buildings, ponds, streams, and mountain vistas. Instruction will focus on connecting with the creative process. Learn about expressive color use, value contrasts, and how to add depth to your paintings. Student critiques, materials' review, framing tips and the "business of art" will round out the week's activities. Plenty of one-on-one attention. Intermediate to advanced levels. Beginners with some experience in pastels are welcome. Materials list provided.
