Penny Viscusi

Penny grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey and graduated from Ridgewood School of Art where many well known artists taught a rigorous Schedule. After graduating in 1966, she became a book designer at Chantecleer Press in New York City and then at Prentice Hall Inc. in New Jersey. She also directed the Mobile Arts Program for the New Jersey Community Action Program.

She regularly attended workshops including those of Elizabeth Mowrey, Eva Mathiasen, Judi Betts, Joan Rudman, and Helen VanWyk.

After relocating to Vermont in 1977, she started a hand- painted clothing business while maintaining her pastel, watercolor and print studio. Penny now devotes her studio and outdoor painting time primarily to pastels .Her part time work, for 12 years, on a local dairy farm gave Penny an even greater appreciation of the beauty of our vanishing landscapes.  They, along with animals and gardens, are the main focus of her paintings.  She exhibits regularly, both in group and solo shows.  Her work is in many private collections across the country as well as restaurants and professional offices.  Penny chooses subjects that are important to her and in which she finds great beauty.  Color, atmospheric perspective, and light inspire her choices for individual paintings.
