It has been said of Robert’s art that his “stunning pastels show a true mastery of the art form and an incredible understanding of light, shape, and composition”. A signature member of the Pastel Society of America and a “Copley Artist” in the Copley Society of Art, he has won over thirty regional and national awards including, the “Best of Show Award” at the Thorne 2005 Biennial Regional Juror’s Choice Competition, the Irene Hunter Award (first prize) at the Southern Vermont Art Center and Hildene’s invitational “Artists in the Garden” exhibition, “Best of Show” at the Art in the Round Barn exhibition, twice the Academic Artists Award at the Academic Artists Association, First Prize and the Bertha White Memorial Award at the Cape Cod Art Association’s New England exhibition and the Robb Sagendorph Award from the Copley Society of Art and Yankee Magazine. He was featured on the cover and in an article in the Nov./Dec. 2004 issue of The Pastel Journal.
His work has been shown at the National Arts Club, the Berkshire Museum, the George Walter Vincent Smith Museum and others. Robert studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, and at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Italy. An avid pastel enthusiast who loves to share his experience and knowledge, Robert has been a juror of numerous art exhibitions, and is a popular instructor, teaching pastel workshops throughout New England.
