Debra Kraemer

I have been creating art since a young child, though my formal art studies began in 1990 at the Alliance for Visual Arts (AVA Gallery) in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Life drawing, printmaking and pastels all captured my interest.

I am often drawn to painting architectural shapes, landscapes and old, rusty machinery which spur me to pick up a delicious stick of pigment and draw it across a gritty surface. Pastels provide a vivid and versatile medium, always inviting a sense of play.

Patterns, shape and light all inspire me and I enjoy working outdoors where nature offers up an endless variety of colors and textures.

I am also a printmaker and textile artist. My boldly-colored images of creatures from the Jungles of Vermont are silkscreened onto clothing, tote bags, note cards and hooked rug kits & patterns. Hand-marbled silk scarves are my newest creations.

I've been a visiting artist at the Thetford Elementary School and have directed a summer art camp for children.

When I'm not creating art, I enjoy swimming, hiking, biking, and gardening near the home my husband, friends & I built in the woods of Thetford, Vermont.
